Plants in Interior Design : Tips to Decorate Your Home With Climbing Plants

We all love to add plants to our indoor spaces. They brighten up the atmosphere and provide us with fresh air and positive energy. Not only that, but there are several popular interior design styles where indoor plants are distinctive characteristics such as Bohemian style, Japanese style, and so on. However, indoor plants are only limited to potted plants. But there is so much more we can do.

Many people believe that climbing plants are only suitable for outdoor spaces such as gardens and terraces. But the fact is that they can be beautifully incorporated into our interior. Climbers add richness and depth to your space. To do that, you will need to know how to grow climbing plants with the right kind of support. Here are a few tips that will help you decorate your home with climbing plants.

1. Choose the Right Kind of Climbing Plants :

This is the most important thing you need to do before figuring out how to decorate your interior with climbers. There are several climbing plants available but not all of them will look good in a room. Devil's ivy, Hedera, and Monstera are some of the best indoor climbing plants. However, these are all leafy plants. If you are looking to create a dramatic look, you may want to opt for climbing plants with flowers such as Morning Glory.

2. Decorate Your Rooms With Climbing Plants at Different Heights :

Adding plants of different heights brings variety to your interior. For example, you can grow climbing plants on a certain item on the floor, window, or on walls. These will help create a pattern for your room. Remenber not to clutter the layout. Many people fill the entire room with plants, which is not suitable for living. Plants are meant to be kept as a decorative item inside your house so you shouldn't overuse them.

3. Use them on Light-Colored Walls :

Green plants look best on light-colored walls such as white, cream, beige, and so on. They create a perfect contrasting background and make your space look fresh. This will help create a focal point in your room. You can also add wood cladding to a certain part of your room. Wood and plants together will create a natural and calming environment to your indoors.

4. Climbing Plants on Walls and Ceilings :

This is not a new trend, but it is still a good option to follow. You decide whether to use minimal climbing plants over your wall to cover the entire wall with plants. But you are going for the ceiling as well, then make sure to have only a small part of it covered. Although many people choose to use fake plants for this, it won't have the same effect as using real ones. If you are bored of using leafy plants, you can cover the entire wall with climbing plants with colorful flowers.

5. Use a Decorative Item as Support :

There are many varieties of decorative items that can act as a good supportive item for your climbing plants. For instance, you can use a vintage-styled step ladder. It can be either big or small, depending on your preference. You can cover the entire ladder with climbing plants and use the spaces in between to put potted plants.

6. Trail or Climb :

You can choose whether to make your climbing plants trail or climb. Trailing vines look best in mid-century interior setup. These plants are at a certain height so your pets and kids won't be able to play with them. As for climbing, it looks best in contemporary design with plain walls.

However you choose to grow and display your climbing plants, the more difficult task is to maintain them such as watering and pruning. If you find your climbing plants too leggy, don't hesitate to keep cutting off the growing tips during the growing season. This will help keep your plants bushy.
